Audio Games Are Dying
This month’s update post is a touch late, but it took forever to cobble together a schedule. There is still an open slot in the middle of the month, and maybe something will happen that gives me a reason to fill it. Steady progress has been made on BSG main site sections, and we have some fun streams coming up for July. Read on to get all the details on what has come and what is up next.
Site Updates
This month I’ve been trying to work on different sections on a more consistent schedule. This has both succeeded and failed. I’ve been managing to record a lot of VO, and get quite a bit of editing done on the MK section, but I haven’t gotten as much done on the SMB3 and Hades sections.
Mortal Kombat 11 Section
The past month I made a lot of progress on the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 section. I am almost half way through now. An early access archive was uploaded to the patreon portal for supporters to download, but the public part won’t be done for a couple months yet. It takes a lot of time to edit the different parts, but I’m slowly making progress.
I’ve also reached out to a couple good MK players, and they have agreed to make combo guides for different characters. This way someone who knows what they are doing can explain how to listen for different audio cues, and when to input moves for combos. My plan is to eventually have audio guides for every character, but I don’t know how long that will take.
Hades & Super Mega Baseball 3
I wrote the original Hades section in just a weekend, but then the mods got updated and things changed. I’ve been waiting for the constant updates to calm down before continuing on with that section. There is a menu guide with example sounds, a controls listing, a FAQ, links to external resources, and upcoming audio and video guides. I don’t want to have to redo anything, so once the modding calms down I’ll finish up the section.
With SMB3 I just haven’t worked on it as much as I should of. My plan is to get through finishing up the menu guides with sounds, then get into the audio and video guides. I also need to hunt down some external resources and link them up for people to read up on the game if they aren’t familiar with it.
The Streaming and Events Schedule For July
This month was a rough one. There just aren’t many new games out there worth spending time on. The audio gaming world is quite dead with the exception of Survive The Wild. Other than that there is just nothing, even Crazy Party is dying a slow death because of lack of updates. Somehow I put together a schedule though, and it is below.
Kitanye’s monthly blind KOTH on Friday July 2, at 7:00pm eastern
This is a new monthly event Kitanye is doing on her Twitch, and BSG is sponsoring the pot. This month’s was a lot of fun, and I can’t wait for the next one on August 6th. If you want to know more there is an entire blog post written about the KOTH. You can read about it here.
Hades on Saturday, July 10 at 4:30pm eastern.
This has quickly become one of my favorite games. Whenever I want something that’s fun and still challenging I load it up and make a run or two. Hamada has been updating and adding to his NVDA mods for the game as well, and it has made the experience so much better. The plan is to have a couple beers, make a couple runs, and talk shit with Hannibal. This stream will be both on BSG and also streamed on the Twitch channel.
PGA Tour 2k21 on Sunday, July 11 at 3:30pm eastern
One of the Patreons TBlaze Did a stream of this game with Basura Basher, and I liked the look of the game so much I went and picked it up for PC. I have zero interest in watching or playing real golf, but I’ve always enjoyed golf games. Even the old kitchen golf game was fun for me, it just couldn’t go online so got boring quite fast. PGA Tour 2k21 is both online, and filled with so many real courses there’s hours of content here. This stream will be me going solo, then later in the month me and Hannibal will have some drinks and play against one another. This stream will be both on BSG and also streamed on the Twitch channel.
Patreon Game Night on Friday, July 16 at 8:00pm eastern
Patreon game nights are one of my favorite nights of the week. Everyone who is signed up on patreon is welcome to come to the BSG Team Talk server and talk some shit while playing cards and other RS or QC games. It is very informal, we just play some light games and chat it up for a couple hours. If you are a patreon and haven’t made it to one of these you are missing out.
Crazy Party on Saturday, July 17 at 4:30pm eastern
This will be the first of two CP streams this month. The game is becoming a dead game, but it is still a consistent way to play along on stream with people listening. Even if the party only has 5 people in it, we have fun playing. Maybe one day there will be an update for the game and it will get interesting again, but either way we’ll keep going with it. This stream will have Blind Sito as a special guest. He has never played CP or any audio games before, so this should be interesting.
Sunday, July 18: 3:30pm eastern
This month was a rough one to fill out. There are just no good audio games being released, and because of this there’s an empty slot here. I’ll fill it in with whatever game I feel like streaming, but at this point I have no clue what that might be.
Survive The Wild on Wednesday, July 21 at 5:30pm eastern
This has become a monthly stream at this point, and one which people have been enjoying quite a bit. Hannibal and Quacker hop on Survive The Wild together, and mess around. This could be doing quests, exploring maps, or having it out in the PK arenas. You can choose to just listen, or play along with them in game while listening to the voices only stream.
PGA Tour 2k21 on Saturday, July 24 at 4:30pm eastern
Booze and golf is the plan for this stream. I think it is a scientific fact that one makes the other better, and in the name of science we are going to test this. Hannibal and myself both know all the things about golf, so you should expect a very high level of game play in this one. This stream will be both on BSG and also streamed on the Twitch channel.
Book Club on Sunday, July 25 at 4:30pm eastern
Books are good, and there is a BSG book club. This month we are reading The Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flanagan. If you want to join the book club you can do so by contacting @CaptainHannibal or @BSG_Blog on twitter.
Crazy Party on Saturday, July 31 at 4:30pm eastern
This will be the second CP stream of the month. This will also be a giveaway stream. As long as you can beat the streamers you can walk away with a gift card, or a copy of a game. There really isn’t much more to say. It is CP, we enjoy getting drunk and playing the game…but really the fun bit is the drinking.
This month is a rather light one, but there isn’t much I can do to fill it in. I was going to stream some Gears 5, but the game won’t connect to online servers on my PC so I rage quit it. Hopefully something changes in the blind gaming world, and some patreons suggest games for August so we can have a nice fat month of streams.
