no booze, no nicotine,no marijuana, and lots of working out

For the Month of February the bSG drunks and pot heads are going sober and competing in a workout competition against one another! We are the bad boys of the community, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do something more serious and have some fun with it. Free of Fabulous Fugazi Substances February is nearly here, (yes we know it is a stupid name, that’s the point) and we are ready to clean it up, and go hard all month!
TLDR
February is the shortest month of the year, and that makes it the perfect month to go sober and work out every day.
This is a call for everyone reading this to join us in working out and taking a month to focus on their health for the month of February.
If you have an apple watch download Ring Rivals and you can join us too.
We’ll be competing against one another, and everyone reading this can also compete on Ring Rivals, or just use this as motivation to get in better shape and push yourself for the month.
January 31 is a Saturday so we’ll be streaming our wild goodbye to alcohol and substances, and February 28 is also a Saturday so we’ll be streaming our return. Between those dates we’ll still be around and streaming, but we’ll be doing it all sober.
Come say high in the chat for any of the streams at twitch.tv/bsg_smoke.
How This Came To Be
If you’ve watched BSG streams for any amount of time you may be familiar with the KOTH of Chaos crew. A group of us who drink a lot on the last saturday of the month and do a king of the hill together on MK11 or MK1. It was originally Hannibal, Blurry, TBlaze, and myself, with KidVision recently being added since Hannibal is still in recovery and also can’t drink.
The four of us get together, sometimes with a guest, and we drink ungodly amounts of alcohol while trying to play a fighting game that requires tight timing and pressing too many buttons. This then leads to the second part of the title…chaos. Recently we’ve started doing more than MK on these streams. Sometimes it is a full jeopardy game, forza, or even street fighter, but one thing never changes, we always wanna make it a party.
The streams are fun, entertaining for those in chat, and even somewhat therapeutic for us, but now we wanna switch gears and try something new. What if we all stop drinking, stop nicotine, and stop marajuana, while also competing in a fitness competition against one another. It turns out what happens is called “Free of Fabulous Fugazi Substances February.”
All that being said, I messaged blurry one day and asked if he would be open to a workout competition for February. He said “that sounds fun,” and then we got TBlaze and Kid involved too, and now it’s a whole thing we’re doing together.
We Are Going Sober!
To someone on the outside, it may seem like No alcohol will be difficult for us, but when you only drink on weekends or on streams it won’t be something difficult to go without.
Unlike alcohol, having no nicotine will be a true struggle for me. I have a 12mg nic pouch in right now as I write this. I haven’t gone a day without nicotine in about 20 years. First with cigarettes, then vaping, and now nic pouches, but it ends for February. Blurry also likes to dabble with nic pouches, so we will be sharing this burden together.
Marajuana will be the hard part for the others, Blurry, TBlaze, and KidVision all partake, some in much higher amounts than others, but not for February. I don’t use the stuff, but for those who do, no more vaping it, eating it, or smoking it.
We don’t do any other “drugs,” but those also won’t be consumed during February. We are going completely sober, and it is going to be one hell of a time.
The only saving grace we’ll have is caffeine, but that’s because coffee is practically a health drink. I know some people think it is bad for you, but friends don’t let friends not drink coffee, and people who disagree have no friends.
Getting In Shape & Going Hard
This is going to be the most interesting part of Free of Fabulous Fugazi Substances February, and the part I’m most looking forward to. The four of us will be competing against one another, and no one wants to lose.
We all have apple watches, and we are going to be using that to measure move calories and stand hours for the month of February. Each move calorie counts as 1 point, and hitting a 16 hour stand goal each day counts for 100 points. This will all be collected by an app called Ring Rivals.
Most importantly, with ring rivals you can do public competitions, and anyone who wants to join us will be able to join in, and compete with us for the month. More on that at the end of the blog post.
To put this into perspective on how serious we are taking this fitness competition. KidVision just bought a treadmill. Blurry just bought kettle bells(not cattle bells) and is also getting an exercise bike. Me and Blaze already have bikes, but I did just buy a new seat, new petals, and a speed sensor to measure distance.
Some naysayers may think this is stupid because we might injure ourselves, but we have all been active for a while. We’re also taking daily recovery very seriously, to prevent that very thing. Blurry and myself have been ramping up workouts this month to prepare for the February grind. TBlaze has already been doing it consistently, so screw that guy. Kid thinks he’s “built different,” so his plan is to play SF6 and hope for the best next month. Also…if someone does get injured it will be KidVision.
The most important thing is that we are doing the damn thing! If one of us finishes first or fourth, we are making a change and that is what matters. The whole point of this is to stop making excuses and to stop putting it off. It is now time to start doing.
My Personal Goals
I’m sure we all have our own goals and reasons for doing this, but I can only speak to my personal motivations.
Like I said earlier it has been a long time since I was without nicotine, and I wanna prove to myself I can do it. I’m not quitting nicotine for health reasons, as the benefits far outweigh the negatives. If you disagree, go back up to the bit about coffee.
When it comes to working out, I wanna conquer the inner bitch. We all have that voice that tells us not to do something, to push it down the timeline, saying we can wait until tomorrow to do that hard thing. I want to put that little voice in the box it belongs in, and push myself into the pain, work through it, and come out on the other side better. I crave that mental clarity after hard cardio, and the feeling of going past the mental breaking point, and this gives me the motivation and reason to do it again.
Whether it is just wanting to be more active, or to go crazy, everyone is welcome to participate with us, and we can all be better for it.
How To Join Us
It would be awesome if others joined in with us, and we all did this together for the month of February. You don’t have to join to compete, instead you can join for the support, and you can choose to be sober or not, but most importantly let’s use the shortest month as an excuse to be active.
This is open for anyone who has an apple watch, and has any ability to workout. That can be body weight exercises like pushups, squats, and situps, swimming, walking, running, biking, or anything in between. Even if you just do something as simple as wall push-ups, or making sure you get more steps in, it is more than doing nothing, and we all have to start somewhere.
Just download the Ring Rivals app on your IPhone, sign up and share your workout data with the app. It is completely accessible, and everyone can encourage one another, and see their numbers in real time.
Starting on February 1st you can go to the competitions tab of ring rivals, click on available competitions, and join the Free of Fabulous Fugazi Substances February competition.
Conclusion
The four of us are going balls deep into February, but we’d like others to join in and make it a party. The goal is simply to have a group of us all working towards the same thing, and you can do it at your own pace. Even if only one other person joins, that is a win in getting active. You can be that one person, so join the group and let’s have some fun.
