Winners of the 6th BSG Singing Competition

And the Award Goes to!

Sixth BSG Singing Competition results show!

2 Days of crazy fun

Introduction

What can I say. These competitions are the best streams we do here on BSG and the Sixth Singing competition was no exception.
Day one brought us all the good singers and what a group we had. Nothing short of perfection with so many amazing and talented people on display.
Day two started with the duet category. People showing us that you can be good on your own but even better together.
Chaos would take over as day two continued with the Bad Category solos. Emotion and talent had been the story of day one. But it was all about the love of the craft on display for day two.

Good Category.

the good category is truly special. The incredible talent, Raw Emotion and Variety we get every time never fails to amaze us. Smoke and I have a harder and harder job every time and we love every second of it.
But I don’t think you are hear for me to wax poetic about the joy we feel, the tears we cry or the roller-coaster that is our emotions as we judge. You want to know who won.

Fifth place: Smoke and I make the rules. Unlike everyone else this means we can break them. We decided that we couldn’t decide who should have fifth place. So we gave it out twice.

5th .1 place in the good category went to Strawberry Jam and her incredible performance of Blue Bayou. She entered in the past, but it was nothing like this, can we all have more of this Strawberry Jam please? Where did this voice come from? simply wow…
StrawberryJam singing Blue Bayou by Linda Ronstadt

5th .2 place in the good category went to Maddie Nardone. She might be the only person to make us say thank you to Ed Sheeran for writing songs for her to sing. Simple, stripped down, and wonderful are the 3 ways to describe this performance. well done Maddie.

4th place in the good category went to a singing competition vet Lady Kaianne. She said she’ll never win a top 5. if she keeps singing like this how could she not be in the top 5 every time? This performance had everyone’s jaw on the floor with how much she changed direction. She has been close to cracking that top 5 a few times, Most notably in the second and fifth competitions, as well as taking out Chats Choice in the fourth but she can now add top 5 to her list of achievements.

3rd place in the good category went to Glein and it was a return to the old Glein that everyone knows. Quite often the cover is better than the original, this was one of those songs. A beautiful cover to remind everyone why we are all #GayForGlein.

2nd place in the good category went to Sophie. We’ve seen her voice grow up since the first singing competition, and she just keeps getting better. This was a perfect song to show how she has a different vocal gear, & it was a well deserved 2nd place finish.

1st place in the good category went to an outstanding performance by Joyce Rica Jimenez. Her ability to draw everyone in through her superb vocal control was on full display, and though it was a tight top 5, she did enough to stand out above the rest. When it comes to the final choice it can often come down to the little details and Joyce is a perfect example of getting it all right.

Duets:

We had hoped to have both a good and bad category for duets but unfortunately we did not get the minimum required in the bad category. However we still received 9 fantastic offerings. 7 good and 2 bad. So we through them all in to one category and picked a winner from that.
The competition was fierce and in the end Smoke and I had to lean on Chat to help us pick who would take out the prize.

And the winner is, Keri-Marie Kelly & Blind Asassin. This was yet another one that just blew everyone away on stream and in chat. Can we please have more of this…like all the time from both of you?

Bad Category

The bad category is a truly unique experience every time. When you have to sing well the focus is on getting it right and pouring all your emotion in to the song.
However when you have to truly let go and give it your all. Even when singing is not one of your talents. Well that is something everyone can enjoy!
So lets dive in to the winners of the bad Category!

5th place in the bad category went to the chicken himself Buddah. Normally people sing like this when they are blessed with a beautiful voice, but that never stopped Buddah. He might not know what pitch is or how to find it. But dam it he gives us his all and that is what we love around here!

4th place in the bad category went to TBlaze. Some times the surprise factor in your performance especially in the bad category can play such a big roll in you taking out a prize. TBlaze Might have had us with an R Kelly cover alone, However hiding his Brilliance in the form of a medley. Something that has become a bit of a trend in the bad category made it all just that much better.

3rd place in the bad category was a great surprise! TheEvilChocolateCookie finally broke through. Her past entries are now just the story to document how much she has learned, and how great she has gotten at being bad. This was a fun song that had everyone cheering her on. We often talk about the most improved and this Entry would have to be one of our strongest contenders.

2nd place in the bad category went to Gruntok, and oh boy did he go for it yet again. Changing words of his song to make it funny while still sticking to the true song was a move we haven’t seen yet, and it made him stand out in yet another way while still being a bad singer. This came so close to taking out the top spot. But as a winner of the 4th competition to make his come back and take out second place is a pretty big power move. I also can’t help but point out the small amount of irony in the fact he sang a song that contains the line, “Listens to Iron Maiden Baby.” a line which he changed despite the fact his very first entry was with an Iron Maiden song. Nothing wrong with this but it Amused me so you all got to read about it.

First place in the bad category went to Blind Boss. These medleys have started to really break through in the bad category, and Boss’s may have been the best one yet. She brought us on a roller coaster of emotions, and made us laugh so hard we almost passed out. That most improved award that doesn’t exist but I mentioned earlier, This was another very strong contender. Boss who has entered in several competitions absolutely knocked all of her other songs out of the park with this one!

Special awards.

Finally we come down to the last 3 prizes of this singing competition. Smoke and I each got to pick someone we thought deserving of a prize, As well as chat getting to pick someone for a chats choice Award.
So lets start with who the chat thought deserving of a prize.

The people’s choice award went to the unique yowling tones of Badass Beatchhhy. Sometimes you aren’t quite sure what you just listened to, and this song was exactly that. The chat has spoken, and congratulations on being everyone’s choice for the 6th singing competition.

Smoke’s wildcard prize went to Super Zel. When asked for a comment on why he picked this song he had this to say. “It made me smile and brought me joy. Why? I don’t rightly know, but that’s the fun of the wildcard, it’s only for me.”
Super Zelle singing Dance Monkey by TONES AND I

Now on to Hannibal’s wild card. Oh that is me!
My wildcard went to Shaw and his cover of Viva España. I honestly had a really hard time picking just one, But something just clicked when I picked this song. I new it was the right choice. It was a really good cover but most importantly it was fun. I don’t know what the lyrics are saying but dam it I enjoy it!

Wrap up

Well that is it for yet another singing competition. We had a lot of laughs, A few tears and so much fun putting this competition on.
Having now done 6 of these competitions, given out thousands of dollars in prizes, heard over 300 submissions, and gained so many fantastic memories a long the way. I think it is safe to say the idea that could have gone no where has proven to be a success.
A huge congratulations goes out to all of our winners and runner ups.
But Almost but not quite as much, equally to everyone who just entered. Even if you didn’t win a prize you still added to the joy of these 2 days and you are all beautiful humans.
Finally a massive thank you to every one who entered, everyone who listened to the streams, who voted on the poles, who commented in Chat, Who subscribes to the twitch, who cheers bits, who supports on Patreon, or shared out the streams. None of this would be possible with out each and everyone of you.
Finally I just want everyone to say thank you to Smoke. I am a lazy prick who gets to judge these competition but really does fuck all else. Smoke works so hard behind the scenes to make this all happen.

Hi, this is smoke, and I’m here to drop something at the end for those who read all the way to the bottom of the blog post. People on Discord demanded it, and here it is.
